Acts 2: 1-21 (NIV) The Day of Pentecost:
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs--we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?" Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine." Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: "`In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'

School Holiday Programme 7-11 July 14:- For the next holiday programme we will be needing plastic milk bottles, newspapers and cardboard boxes, so please can you start collecting and if you can put them in the main office for Jeannine. Thank you very much.

 

June Fellowship Meeting:-Be sure to keep Tues. 24 June free at 10.00a,m. to attend our Fundraiser movie BELLE at the Monterey Cinema in Howick. The price of $15 includes coffee and a scone before the movie. $3 goes to St Johns. The movie will begin at 10.30. Do invite your friends. We have a 40 seat cinema booked. This is a very good movie about the Abolition of Slavery and a charming love story. I loved it. Sign up on the clip board in the foyer and please pay Loas before 15 June when the deposit is due.

 

Trade Aid Stall:-Thanks to those who purchased items at the stall last week. Total sales were $115.

 

Real Life with John Cowan:- :This Sunday night (8th June) John Cowan's guest will be Netball New Zealand CEO, Hilary Poole.

 

On Behalf of the Property Team:- Thank you for your contribution to the Thanksgiving Offering this year. We have continued our stewardship tradition and used it to replace the heating needs of the building. Along with the heat pumps in the worship room, the 9 new heaters have been installed throughout the building. Our little ones downstairs are now warm and our Mandarin congregation will be warm this morning as well.

 

Food Bank:- The food bank are in desperate need of Flour, Tea, Toilet paper, milk powder or long life milk, jam, toothpaste and tooth brushes. If you could please consider this when purchasing your items for the basket. Thank you so much your help and donations are so greatfully received.

 

CHURCH PHONE BOOK:- The church phone book is due to be re printed. Please double check your entries in the phone book and please add or remove any information that is no longer relevant. Once this process is complete I will reprint the new book. If you are new to the church and wish for your details to be added please write your details on the blank pages added at the back. Please initial next to your name that you are happy for the details to still remain in the phone book and that they are correct. Thank you Jeannine

 

Bible in Schools:- They are in need of teachers for this year. If you are interested there is a print out of the details on the column in the foyer.

 

Children @ Risk Prayer Week 22-29 June. There are little brochures in the foyer on the small table to help you with the messages of prayer for children over this week. Please take one if you would like to help.

 

Caring for our World PresCare Art and Writing Competition. Further details are on the column in the foyer with entry forms if your children would be interested.

 

Inspirational/Anglican TV:- “When we give a little of our time to help someone we don't know, we offer a sign hope. This week on www.inspirationaltv.net: volunteer driving for the Cancer Society, being a sign and Matthew 5:1-12 sermon on the mount.

 

Girls Brigade:- Sunday 22 June is the Girls Brigade Area Parade to be held here in our church.
